SMUD

The SMUD Home Performance Program (HPP) is a whole-house approach that bundles energy-efficiency upgrades to deliver more savings, comfort and rebate options. (Rebates are subject to availability.)

1. Select Guardian Home Energy as your contractor

Guardian Home Energy is a participating Home Performance Program (HPP) contractor. Your contractor will recommend improvements, rebate packages and financing options that fit your schedule and budget.

 

2. Select your upgrade package

We’ve improved our HPP program to make it easier to choose what’s right for you. Your contractor will recommend the best package for you based on your needs. There are 3 options:

 

  • Seal and Insulate Package − rebates up to $3,000

PG&E

PG&E is a partner in the Energy Upgrade California program.

  • Basic Upgrade Package – 7 required measures (Air sealing, attic insulation, duct sealing, hot water pipe insulation, thermostatic shutoff valve, carbon monoxide monitor) that together could reduce your energy consumption by an average of 10%. Up to $1000 rebate.
  • Advanced Upgrade Package – A home energy audit which includes energy modeling must be completed by a certified energy auditor. A customized solution (Basic upgrade package plus high-efficiency furnace, energy-efficient cooling, water heater system, energy efficient Windows, duct replacement, wall insulation) with energy savings of 15 to 40%, with incentives from $1250 – $4000 depending on efficiency improvement. The amount of the rebate you get is based on energy modeling software that shows how much energy your home will save after an energy upgrade remodel.

Federal Tax Credits

Solar customers are entitled to a 30% Federal tax credit. Insulation customers receive 10% of the cost of materials up to a maximum of $500. For this reason we technically “sell” our insulation to customers and provide labor at no charge. For solar customers we offer, as an alternative to a discount, to throw in free insulation, which allows the customer to receive a 30% tax credit on every dollar they spend

Financing

Guardian offers low interest financing through HERO (Home Energy Renovation Opportunity) which allows you to deduct the entire cost of your insulation & the full amount of the interest. Depending on your tax bracket this often allows for a net zero interest loan and allows you to pay for your entire project out of the savings on your energy bills. We can also assist you in acquiring a home equity line of credit which offers rates as low as 3.75%.
